How to Put a Leash on the Super-Rich

What do people with immense wealth truly fear? Losing their money.

And what’s the fastest way to lose money? There are many, but some include: a stock price built on credit collapsing, a political party they’ve invested in losing power and thus their business plans falling apart, or their child getting caught doing drugs. Managing a massive company is already difficult, and there are countless vulnerabilities both inside and out.

That’s why many live in fortress-like homes with top-level security, and newly rich individuals tend to cluster in certain areas — Seopangyo, Seongbuk, Samseong, Hannam… There are many. While it seems like they're being thorough, the truth is, they’re full of holes.

One major vulnerability? GPS tracking. Many wealthy people neglect vehicle management. They never consider the possibility that someone with ill intent could simply attach a magnetic GPS device to the underside of their car and track every move. Once their driving history is laid out, it’s not difficult to see where they spent hours at a time. There's no need for risky tailing anymore.

And it’s not just their own cars. If they have a wild son or grandson, the situation worsens. Do you think a third-generation chaebol heir just comes home early and sleeps peacefully? Some might, but there are many who definitely don’t. Monitoring their activities is a piece of cake. Clubs, bars, hotels — you name it. Let me ask seriously: do you fully trust the valet who parks your car?

Sure, 99% of valets are decent, hardworking people. But what if someone handed a valet 1 million won and asked them to slip a tiny device into the car? Would they really say no? It could be hidden in the backseat pocket, or somewhere harder to reach — it doesn’t matter. Once inside, everything from their conversations to movement can be recorded and tracked.

Now imagine a group that has systematized this. Imagine they’ve mapped it all out, monitoring movements of these vehicles and individuals in real-time. Now imagine they also buy off the madam of a bar these elites frequent. Wouldn’t they know exactly who’s in which room, and what kinds of conversations are happening? Everything leaks — and it’s terrifyingly easy.

What I’m sharing here online is just a teaser — things anyone can figure out with a little thought. The truly malicious never reveal how they obtain info about the powerful. They refine and weaponize these methods.

Sometimes, I come across genuinely good-hearted chaebol figures. They’re objectively kind and diligent — far from the evil caricatures shown in dramas. But even their goodness gets exploited. Their trust becomes a tool to extract information. There are people in this world who make a business out of buying and selling others' vulnerabilities.

People often talk about conspiracies. They say whenever the government wants to cover up something big, a celebrity drug scandal conveniently surfaces. If that’s true, it means someone had that dirt in advance and leaked it strategically. If it’s not true and purely coincidental, then this kind of information economy shouldn’t exist. But it does.

Everyone sees the world to the extent of their own knowledge. A builder can look at a column and understand the structure’s integrity. A security expert can assess the quality of guards and CCTV at a glance. If the information you want to keep hidden keeps leaking, and you feel like you're living on a leash, you need a specialist. Faucets don’t leak without a reason. If it’s leaking, there’s a crack somewhere.
